“We help and support the forest owners, with forest management. Being close to the forest means we know where the tree comes from —and how it has grown.”

FROM FOREST TO FLOOR

The Story of Oak

There is something timeless about oak. Strong, resilient, and deeply rooted in history, it has been used for centuries to build ships, furniture, and homes. At Kährs, this remarkable material has been at the heart of our craftsmanship for almost 170 years.

But an oak floor is more than a product. It is the continuation of a story.

It begins in the forests of southern Sweden, where oak trees grow slowly over decades. Each tree is shaped by its environment by the soil, the climate, and the passage of time. No two trees are alike, and that individuality is carried into every floor we create. Not all trees grow in Småland.

The Story of Oak

Working closely with thousands of forest owners, Kährs ensures that every tree is sourced responsibly and with a long-term perspective. Forestry is not about quick results, it is about generations. Some oaks are cared for over decades before they are ready, reflecting a mindset where the future is always part of the present.

When the oak reaches our factory, craftsmanship and technology come together to enhance what nature has already created. Through brushing, staining, and surface treatments, we bring out the depth, texture, and character of the wood - without ever losing its authenticity. The result is a floor that is not only beautiful but built to last.

“A wood floor should always highlight the naturalness of the material.

Texture, grain, and subtle variation - that’s where the beauty lives.”

Emanuel Lidberg Designer, Kährs

“Wood binds carbon as it grows—and that carbon stays stored in the floor for as long as it’s in use.”
Saad Ghauri, Sustainability Specialist, Kährs

Unlike many modern materials, a wooden floor can be restored and renewed. It ages gracefully, developing a patina that reflects the life lived upon it. Over time, it becomes more than a surface, it becomes part of the home itself.

From a sustainability perspective, oak offers something unique. As trees grow, they bind carbon, which remains stored in the wood throughout the life of the product. And because Kährs floors are designed to last for decades, that impact is extended over time.

In a world of fast consumption, oak represents something different.

A slower, more thoughtful approach. A material shaped by time and made to endure it.

At Kährs, we honor that story by transforming oak into floors that continue to live long after they leave the forest.

The Story of Oak. The floor that lived before you.
