In spring 2011, Pontus Johansson, without a doubt Sweden’s foremost sushi chef with, among other awards, a second place at the international Sushi Awards to his name, opened a new restaurant at Sankt Knuts Torg in Malmö. Saiko is Japanese for ’innovation’, something that has always been an important element in Pontus’ cooking. By uniting authentic food culture from Skåne with traditional Japanese sushi customs, he has succeeded in creating something that is innovative, but without altering the original technique. The menu includes both sushi and hot dishes and the tastefully decorated restaurant has space for both small and large groups of people. The floor, on which the guests both walk and sit, consists of Kährs’ Oak Charlemagne boards. It is a dark, nature oiled 1-strip board with bevelled edges, which creates a solid base for the stylistically pure furnishings.

Grand Hotel Central is located in the heart of the city, in the fashionable El Born district, with its authentic shops, designer bars and restaurants. The hotel boasts 147 rooms, which combine avant-garde design with a cool ambiance. Designed by the prestigious interior design team, Sandra Tarruella and Isabel López, each of the rooms include dark-toned Linnea Walnut.

ESPRESSO HOUSE

Sweden’s Espresso House is one of the fastest-growing coffee chains in Europe. Its coffee bars can be found in places that experience a large flow of people, such as train stations, shopping centres and shopping streets and offer attractive meeting places for people looking for a break during the day. Over 30,000 people visit Espresso House every day for a cup of coffee in lovely, cosy surroundings. Several of its coffee bars throughout Sweden have had wood flooring laid – on the walls. The flooring that has been chosen is called Oak Sparuto, which has a brushed and handscraped surface with rustic features such as genuine cracks, knots and wooden plugs. Each board is unique and contributes to the coffee bars’ cosy environment.

KVÄNUM

The Kvänum in Malmö is one of Kvänum’s biggest showrooms. They operate across the whole of southern Skåne, from Landskrona to Smygehamn and from Falsterbonäset to Österlen. Kährs’ Oak Jersey, a rustic oak board with bevelled edges and a nature oiled surface, is used in the showroom.

ST. PHILIPS CHURCH

Originally built in 1857, St. Philips Church and its adjacent halls in Earls Court Road, west London, has undergone extensive refurbishment by architects, Hemingway & Cumbo. Works to the vicarage, parish and the London diocese included internal alterations, in addition to roofing, cleaning, repairs to its landmark tower and restoration of stained glass. Oak Hampshire, a rustic 1-strip multi-layered wood floor, was laid floating throughout the interior.

ARRIVA CONDOMINIUMS

Designed by BKDI Architects, and developed by Torode Reality Ltd., the three glass and steel towers feature a brick and sandstone finish at the base, to reflect the architectonic style of the surrounding historic buildings. The towers are 34 to 42 storeys high, making them the highest residential buildings in Alberta. Phase one of the project has already been completed, and the open-concept residences have been fitted with premium interior details and a selection of hardwood flooring from Kährs, including Hard Maple Alberta and Walnut Vermont.

CONVIVIUM

After this long career, Marco Antino, decided to create a new proposal for a more democratic palate. The idea is to satisfy the more casual palate. Also to Italians living in the Peru, and those who enjoy Italian food. The name of the restaurant is its etymology, since Convivium means participate in a feast, drink wine, celebrate something. I.e., it has the same meaning as Symposium (in Greek), his signature restaurant (voted the best Italian restaurant 5 years in a row). Marco, 45, Italian born “food artist” created an Italian corner in downtown San Isidro, the most exclusive neighborhood in Lima, Peru. Convivium, guarantees the authentic Italian recipes and flavors. Special and rare ingredients are flown directly from Italy, as well as the most sophisticated Italian wines; some of which cost over $5,000.00 a bottle. Decoration and design was extremely important. Every single details was carefully selected. Top european brands were chosen to be part of this venture. Marco, after reviewing several options decided to install Kahrs Supreme Grande Casa. Kahrs Casa is the protagonist of the restaurant and mandates the decoration and color of the walls and furniture, specially brought from Italy. Presently Convivium is fully booked weeks in advance, making it a must for all traditional Italian food lovers.
